Default Password protecting ages in Apache ?

I have just set up an Apache web server at home and have a personal site on
the server. I would like to make certain pages on my site secure, ie they
would need a username and password to access them. Is this possible? and
where do I start, in order to achieve this.

Thanks

Tony
