Default Apache on showing index.html

I recently set up apache on a fedora core 4 box. I am having a
problem. I don't get any 404 or 403 pages even when I point my browser
at a page I know isn't there. Basically no matter what I point my
browser to on my website it just shows the index.html. Any one know
what I am doing wrong?
