Default remove leftovers

On a w2k system there are some leftovers from previous installations of
apache, php and mysql.
Everything has been deleted/uninstalled, except leftovers in the registry.
These leftovers prevent me from installing properly new instances. When I
install a new version of Apache, there seem to be 3 instances (2 old, 1
new), MySQL won't complete a new installation.
How do I safely get rid of the old stuff?

Thanks, mieke

Thank you. I agree.
So I made a backup of the registry, as well as a complete disk backup.
But then I am not a registry wizard, so I did not and do not know how to
clean the registry. I have tried several socalled regcleaners which did not
deliver.
Where do I change the registry without having to deal with a messup?
