Default MaxKeepAliveRequests

Hi all, I would like to know how the option MaxKeepAliveRequests
influences the performances. It is written that the higher is the value,
the higher is the server performance, but I don't understand why.
Is there a limiti? Why don't setting it to *infinite*?
