Default minor SSL config issue, site forced to https

I have a slight SSL virtual host configuration issue. I have only one
directory on my site I want forced to SSL, the rest I want unencrypted.
This does work just fine with one minor glitch. The first time I type a URL
to my domain it automatically switches to SSL. Example,
http://mydomain/blog manually entered in a browser will switch to
https://mydomain/blog/ However, if I click on the main site link on my blog
it loads http://mydomain/blog just fine. It's kind of bizarre. Any
thoughts out there?

Cheers,
Scott

Just by chance just now I learned something new to add to the mystery. If I
add a slash at the end of the URL when I manually type the address it does
not automatically load the page over SSL.
