Old XP Pro crash with apache and php

I have one of the first XP Pro releases on which I´ve tried to install
apache and php.
It doesn´t work because every time I upload new files to localhost directory
I have to stop and start apache to wiev the changes in my browser.
Now I installed XP Home and it works right out of the box.
How come?
