Hmm, What was the $forward_method set to?

This is confusing:
"to=<auser@example.com>, relay=127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]"
But maybe this is just a result of how the message was sent.

With Postfix 2.3 or newer, you might try adding:
-o smtpd_tls_security_level=none

But I would think smtpd_use_tls=no would still work (and be sufficient).
(or) might also try adding:
-o smtpd_enforce_tls = yes
