I think advertisements from legitimate companies typically have a link
to unsubscribe. You rarely reply to a bulk mail from them. Even if
replying is the method they use, a legitimate company would typically send
you one last notice that you have been unsubscribed (and you may be
asked to confirm) and that is all. Most likely that notice would come from
a different sender. If you reply to a bad guy, I would think it is likely
they are simply adding you to their list of verified email addresses to be
used for future spam, and may not (likely would not?) use the same sender
address as the spam you replied to. I do concede that on occasion a
user may reply to addresses like noreply@dell.com however, which could
lower the score for future mail from that address. It would only be a
real problem if the user was getting spammed by the same user frequently
and they replied with equal frequency. If I'm off the mark here, then the
problem is I don't get any decent spam samples anymore! Hopefully your
users don't either, so they are not spending a lot of time replying to
'bad guy' spam, thinking that is a sure fire way to stop it. I think
people got tired of doing that years ago anyway (Hmm, no matter how
many times I replied with 'unsubscribe' on the Subject line, I still
have spam!).
