Is it just some messages that cause SA to be slow, or does it affect all messages? Are you running chrooted? If Bayes is in use I would first check to see if database is still sane, and manually do expiry: su vscan -c 'sa-learn --showdots --force-expire' Then take one message (e.g. snatch email.txt from some temporary directory) and feed it to a command line spamassassin: su vscan -c 'spamassassin -t -D <email.txt' and see if it runs normally.
