What patch level is your 20030616? If you are using something older
than p10, there most likely is no reason not to use p10. SpamAssassin
3.04 works fine with 200300616-p10. Follow the upgrade instructions so
your Bayes database will get upgraded from version 2 to version 3.
Make backup copies of all your bayes files before you start.
Probably a good idea to make a backup cop of your entire
/etc/mail/spamassassin directory (or wherever your settings are kept).
You will probably want to add 'lock_method flock' to local.cf.
If you want to turn off auto_whitelist, you will need to do it
in local.cf because the amavisd.conf setting will no longer have
any effect.
I you use custom rule sets, some of them will now be duplicated,
(meaning many are now incorporated in the standard set of rules) so
you will have to go through a review process to get rid of duplicates.

Try to install it using the same method you used to install 2.x or
you may end up with a couple copies of spamassassin; this usually
makes for a mess. Lint your rules after the ugrade. Run
'amavisd debug-sa' to check for problems. If you used SpamCopURI, you
will need to delete spamcop_uri.cf. The rule sets are different enough
in the two versions that you may go into an initial shock period after
the conversion. Just relax, untweak some of your 2.x tweaks, and tweak
your new 3.x system as you see fit, it will work out great.

You can set $spam_admin = "me\@$mydomain"; to get detailed reports
that will help you tweak scores.
