Hey Folks ,
I'm having trouble getting mail to one particular host. Qmail log file reads : Jun 28 10:08:05 samsara qmail: 1151507285.540849 delivery 16692: deferral: 12.39.78.10_does_not_like_recipient./Remote_host_said:_450_<john@yourcompsolution.com>: _Sender_address_rejected:_Domain_not_found/Giving_up_on_12.39.78.10./ then the bounce message says : Hi. This is the qmail-send program at samsara.yourcompsolution.com. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out. <spritchard@sirchiacuomo.com>: Sorry, I couldn't find any host named sirchiacuomo.com. (#5.1.2) Am I missing something or are these messages in conflict? 12.39.78.10 = sirchiacuomo.com MX To me it seems like the remote host (sirchiacuomo.com) is having DNS issues and can't see us, however our own qmail is then saying it couldn't find them despite having made the connection and resolved the ip (which is pingable and telnet-able to 25). Or is it that their MX doesn't recognise either of us? Could someone explain please? Thanks! - John |

If one delivery attempt fails temporarily and the next one fails permanently, you'd see this kind of behaviour. > To me it seems like the remote host (sirchiacuomo.com) is having DNS > issues and can't see us, however our own qmail is then saying it > couldn't find them despite having made the connection and resolved the > ip (which is pingable and telnet-able to 25). Yes, but the problems didn't necesarily, and couldn't, actually, occur simultaneously. -- Dave Sill Oak Ridge National Lab, Workstation Support Author, The qmail Handbook <http://web.infoave.net/~dsill> <http://lifewithqmail.org/>: Almost everything you always wanted to know. |

Thanks for the input Dave,
being that this is the only domain we have trouble emailing to, from the provided information would you feel confident saying that it is their configuration of mail /dns that is having the issues? - John Dave Sill wrote: > "john@yourcompsolution.com" <john@yourcompsolution.com> writes: > > > Jun 28 10:08:05 samsara qmail: 1151507285.540849 delivery 16692: > > deferral: > > 12.39.78.10_does_not_like_recipient./Remote_host_said:_450_<john@yourcompsolution.com>: _Sender_address_rejected:_Domain_not_found/Giving_up_on_12.39.78.10./ > > This means a delivery attempt failed temporarily (4xx error code) > because the receiving server couldn't look up the sender's address. > > > Hi.
