Where are my bounced emails?

Please forgive this newbie question, but I have searched and searched
and cannot seem to find the answer I am looking for.

I am not receiving an email notification when I send to an invalid
email address. I can see some of them in the queue/bounce folder, but
why am I not receiving them via email?

Apparently I should be looking at the showctl variables, but I don't
see anything I should change.
