Hi Brian,
I do read the newsgroup postings, probably too much! My concerns was if removing /var/qmail was going to create a clean enough space for the new installation. I have since downloaded and read through the "Life with qmail" documentation and noticed that there are indeed several areas of installation outside of the /var/qmail tree. For Ex. there are several qmail* users in the /etc/passwd file installed by the previous qmailrocks instalation, Life w/ qmail will attempt to install these users but w/ differing UID & GID, then there is /usr/home/vpopmail/domains/econ.com This was the basis of my concerns. Note my orignal installation was w/ the 'qmailrocks' package. Many programs have excelent installation tools, but may the gods help you when you have to deinstall should something go wrong with the inst. -- Adam -- Brian T Glenn wrote: > On Sat, 03 Jul 2004 11:17:44 -0700, Adam Smith <adamsmith@econ.com> may have written: > >>Could someone advise on how to effectively deinstall qmail and its >>dependent from a machine - FreeBSD 4.9 ( not knowing where all the files >>are placed on install). The users just need to exist. > /usr/home/vpopmail/domains/econ.com > This was the basis of my concerns. > Note my orignal installation was w/ the 'qmailrocks' package. vpopmail != qmail > Many programs have excelent installation tools, but may the gods help > you when you have to deinstall should something go wrong with the inst. That is why documents like lifewithqmail are so valuable. You have proven, repeatable instrcutions that you can do in reverse should you need to uninstall.
