qmail-scanner with qmail Redhat 9.0

Hi guys,

I have tried to install the mail server as described on:

It is a great document (Except for a couple of minor errors)
and I have run into an issue that has got me stuck.

Installing "qmail-scanner" v. 1.16 causes some issues
when I try to run:

su - qmaild
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue.pl –g

The system just sits there and does nothing. The command
is supposed to init the queue and exit.

There has been a number of issues reported in relation
to Redhat 9.0 and perl, especially around language
coding. See: export LANG=en_US

Some perl stuff simply fails if this is not done on RH 9.0

I have "perl-5.8.0-88.3" (Latest update) and have seen results
on Google to the effect that that version of perl on RH9.0 is
a dud and has a number of problems.

"qmail-scanner" is a perl script:-((

Any input on what may be going wrong here. I did "test build"
the server on a test box but did not update perl and all worked fine.

Sorry for the long post - any ideals where I should go to resolve
this?
