I am using Postfix 2.0.14 and RBLs to bounce spam with the default 550
code. This works very well but it does concern me that the spam is being bounced to a fake address used by the spammer. Is this the case? If it is, shouldn't I softbounce them with a 450 instead? Thanks for any advice. |

If you do RBL check in time of session, then it will be job of connecting server to decide what to do with 550. In most cases it's spammer himself, so do not give him something other than 550, unless You want him to connect every 4h to Your server. If it's some kind of open-relay then it might bounce to innocent person, but only way you can prevent this is by accepting and then discarding message. It will encourage spammers to send You more mails however. In my opinion 550 is the best You can send when get connection from RBL listed networks. pozdr.
