Default is there a simple exim4-smtp howto?

Hi there,

I'm using debian sid and I never cared much about
exim until today. I'm trying to configure it in a
way, that it uses my ISP's smtp server to send my
emails (created on the console using 'mail').

I cannot figure out, how. I know, this might be a
silly question, but I'm totally confused about ssmt,
sendmail, qmail, fetchmail, mutt, exim4 and how it
all comes together.

actually I just want to be able to use console
software like mutt or mail instead of kmail or
mozilla thunderbird. But this seems to be a hard
task....

Tell Exim to use the incoming mail server of your ISP as it's smarthost.
It's probably a better idea to send mail directly to it's final
destination though.

http://www.sput.nl/software/exim.html
There are some links at the bottom. And of course http://www.exim.org/
Also have a look at RFC 0821 / 2821. Telnet to the SMTP (25) port of
your (ISP's) server and type some SMTP commands. This way you can learn
SMTP quickly and debug your server setup.

Rob
