No - the load average does *not* show traffic.
It shows the CPU load.

It is a number, not a words.
But the number is *not* kB, MB or any sort of bytes.

On a lightly-loaded, single CPU system, you would expect to see
a value somewhere between 0 and 1. (0=completely idle,
1=constantly processing, >1 = overloaded),
