I am trying to setup SMTP AUTH to avoid being an open relay. I applied
the patch I found on qmail.org and after recompiling and starting up
qmail again it doesn't look like it's requiring me to authenticiate
when sending mail. (in Outlook I unchecked "my smtp server requires me
to log on" and sent a message that went through).

I feel like I'm missing a step but I can't find anything in the
documentation. Is there something I'm supposed to configure to get
SMTP AUTH to work or do you just recompile and it's there?

Any help appreciated, I'm new to qmail and mail servers in general and
was so proud I got everything up and working, only to be stumped by
this :).
