I'd like to propose to you another approach...
assuming you own your mail server (since you can change the parameters
of postfix), why don't you install a mailing list manager (such as
mailman [1] or majordomo [2]), create an announcements-only mailing
list with the addresses of the 1000+ recipients and let the mailing
list manager take care of the post process ?
I'm currently using mailman and I'm very happy with it.
If, on the other hand, you don't want to do the extra job of installing
the mailing list manager (although an easy task), you can use either
googlegroups or yahoogroups.
