XP SP2 firewall blocks some programs from opening sockets.. That could be
it.. Maybe your HOSTS file got fucked up? Look in
\windows\system32\drivers\etc for a file named hosts. Open it with notepad.
It should include the line "127.0.0.1 localhost"... Otherwise, add it at
the bottom..

Hi,
I've downloaded and installed an Apache package (with MySQL, PHP, Perl, and
more) from SourceForge.net and for quite some time (months), it worked
without problems. A few days ago, I did something (installed Firefox?)
after which localhost was no longer available! What happened? How do I fix
it? Any ideas?
Many thanks.
George
